The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.

Carl Jung

The son of a pastor, with clergy on both sides of his family, Carl Jung seemed destined to become a minister — until, in his teens, he began studying philosophy. His reading inspired him to pursue a career in medicine and become a psychiatrist. From early on in his career, he worked with association tests, cataloging the unique responses people had to various visual and auditory stimuli. He was the first to use the terms “introvert” and “extrovert” to describe personalities, and the first to propose the idea of a collective unconscious. He worked with and studied thousands of people throughout his life, ultimately coming to the conclusion that there is no one-size-fits-all answer for how to live and be happy; each of us is distinct in the world.
